No ninth and tenth grade classes on
Sunday,
October 25, because of the Lasky Teen
Retreat. If you are not going on the retreat,
you are welcome to come be a Machonik in the
religious school for either or both sessions.

9th grade classes
Ninth grade meets at a new time with a new
program! Our subject matter promises interactive
learning and great discussion. We will explore
modern Israeli history, Jewish ethics and some
basic Jewish texts and literacy. An exciting
addition to our 9th grade year is the chance for
our class to collaborate to create the Purim
spiel (wacky spoof on the Purim story) for the
entire congregation.
Class will meet first session on Sundays,
8:45-10:45 AM. Of course 9th graders can serve as
Machoniks second session; Machoniks will have
special training sessions over the course of the
year.
Each week we’ll have a break for bagels and
conversations with friends and classmates.
10th grade classes
Tenth grade also meets at a new time with a new
program! Our subject matter will challenge us to
consider and articulate our own beliefs. In the
fall, we will delve into comparative religion,
primarily Judaism and Christianity, and will
visit a church and a mosque as part of our
studies. In the spring we will discuss God,
Jewish beliefs and prayer. We will then create,
prepare and lead our own Confirmation service on
Shavuot, the evening of May 18, 2010.
Class will meet on Sundays, 11:00 AM - 1:00
PM. Of
course 10th graders can serve as Machoniks first
session; Machoniks will have special training
sessions the course of the year.
Each week we’ll have a break for bagels and
conversations with friends and classmates.
As always, activities in our High School are
closely connected to the TYG, our teen youth
group.
And don’t forget: Confirmation (Grade 10)
students and students who have been confirmed in
previous years are eligible to join our NSCI
Teen Israel trip over Winter Break with a
generous stipend from the Saeree and Louis
Fiedler Israel Scholarship Fund. For more
information, contact any of the rabbis or the
cantor.
